Why I Write Books
Some discoveries can be explained in a few pages.
Others need much more room.
Books give ideas time to develop.
They allow evidence to accumulate.
Examples to unfold.
Questions to be explored properly.
I’ve never thought of books as products.
I’ve always thought of them as longer conversations.
Two Different Journeys
Although the books on this site explore different subjects, they all begin with the same curiosity.
How can we understand something more clearly than we did before?
Some books answer that question through people.
Others through ideas.
Stories
Stories have always fascinated me.
Not simply because remarkable things happened.
But because ordinary lives often contain extraordinary lessons.
Writing memoirs has reinforced something I had suspected for years.
Everyone has a story.
Helping readers experience that story is what matters.
The memoir-related books on this site all explore people, memory, experience and the ways we understand our own lives.
Ideas
Some questions cannot be answered through biography alone.
Questions such as:
Why does AI produce convincing mistakes?
When does information become knowledge?
What happens when nobody fully understands the systems they remain responsible for?
Those questions eventually became books because they required more space than an article could provide.
The CKP work belongs here.
Not because it is about artificial intelligence.
Because it is really about judgement.
Books Are Not The End
One of the mistakes many writers make is believing that publication finishes an idea.
I’ve gradually come to think the opposite.
Publication begins the conversation.
Readers ask better questions.
Experience accumulates.
Evidence changes.
Books become part of a continuing exploration rather than a final destination.
That is how I hope these books will be read.

Books exploring memory, experience and life stories.
Each begins with people.
Each asks how stories can be shared honestly while remaining engaging for readers.
Continuous Knowledge Preparation
A developing exploration of knowledge, judgement and artificial intelligence.
The central proposition is simple.
Preparation often matters more than generation.
Everything else follows from that.
Future Books
Several ideas are still developing.
Some may eventually become books.
Others may remain articles.
I no longer decide that in advance.
The subject itself usually tells me how much space it needs.

Curiosity is usually a better guide than chronology.
Why Books Still Matter
Artificial intelligence can now generate enormous amounts of text.
That doesn’t make thoughtful books less valuable.
If anything, I think it makes them more valuable.
A good book is not simply information.
It is a carefully prepared journey.
One idea leading naturally to another.
One discovery making the next possible.
That remains one of the most satisfying forms of writing I know.
Closing Thought
I’ve discovered that writing books teaches me almost as much as reading them.
Every book begins with the belief that I understand a subject.
Most end with the realisation that I understand it a little better than when I started—but that there is still much more to explore.
