Are people, places and events introduced clearly?
Are assumptions made that only the writer could understand?
Pace
Does the narrative move naturally?
Are some sections rushed?
Do others stay longer than necessary?
Emotional Impact
Where does the story become most powerful?
Where might readers become emotionally disconnected?
Voice
Most importantly:
Does the manuscript still sound unmistakably like you?
That question matters throughout the assessment.
