Missing context<\/strong><br>You introduce people as if the reader already knows them.<br>You refer to events as if they\u2019ve already been explained.<br>In your head, they have. On the page, they haven\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Emotional jumps<\/strong><br>You move from one moment to another without showing the shift.<br>You felt it. The reader didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. Assumed meaning<\/strong><br>You describe what happened, but skip what it meant at the time.<br>Or you explain the meaning without letting the moment carry it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From your side, everything connects.<br>From the reader\u2019s side, it doesn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Editing a memoir isn\u2019t about correcting sentences.<br>It\u2019s about closing that gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seeing what the reader actually experiences \u2014 not what the writer intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s the difference between a draft that makes sense to you<br>and a memoir that works for someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What I look for when <a href=\"https:\/\/symcox.co.uk\/memoir-review\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"62\">reviewing a memoir<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>where the reader has to guess who someone is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where something important is implied but not shown<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where a transition happens too quickly to follow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where meaning is assumed instead of earned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It makes sense to you.
